Reggae Rise Up 2020 Headliner: Dirty Heads

Dirty Heads is no stranger to the Reggae Rise Up lineup. Like Slightly Stoopid, this band comes from the sunny state, California. Hailing from Huntington Beach, the band first began in 2006, heavily influenced by the ska and reggae fever that had already permeated the area.

Jared “Dirty J” Watson and vocalist/guitarist Dustin “Duddy B” Bushnell joined talents and passion for the genre while still in high school. Often referred by siblings and family members during the younger years as “dirty heads”, the name stuck and would make the pair famous worldwide.

In 2008, “Any Port in a Storm” was their inaugural album and the appearance of fan-favorite songs like “Lay Me Down,” which achieved #1 on the Billboard Alternative Chart for 11 weeks. 6 years later “Sound of Change”, their 4th studio album, reached number two on Top Rock Albums and reached number 8 on the Billboard 200.

3 albums later and the band doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. Last August, Dirty Heads released “Super Moon,” touring nationally with other Reggae Rise Up performers, 311 and Matisyahu. They’ve even toured with other DLVEC headliners like Sublime with Rome and Gym Class Heroes

The band has kept all its members since its inception. Other than friends Dirty J and Duddy B, these are the other members, contributing to the signature, alternative sound:

  • Jon Olazabal – percussion
  • Matt Ochoa – drums
  • David Foral – bass
  • Shawn Hagood – keyboards, vocals

Dirty Heads will finish out the reggae festival weekend Sunday evening. Don’t forget to get your tickets before they’re gone!
